The improvements may not be enough to make you decide to upgrade your old Nano, but then again, it just might. The new features aren’t groundbreaking, but they are slick. The shape of…

A really nice touch

The second-generation iPod touch is said to be the most fun iPod yet, now sporting a sleek design and more features. By CHONG JINN XIUNG APPLE’S second-generation iPod touch crams many features into a simple device and it’s certainly not difficult to believe that it’s one of the “funnest” portable music players in the market. When we first came across the iPod touch last year, it was little more than a pared down version of the iPhone and strangely lacked several useful applications. The new iPod touch, available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB sizes, remedies this with a better set of features and an attractive design. HEAD TURNER: The latest iPod touch packs in more features. Ontario to ban cells while driving

TORONTO — Ontario became the latest province yesterday to propose banning drivers from talking, texting or e-mailing on hand-held electronic devices — but not on hands-free gadgets. The province’s minister of transportation, Jim Bradley, said the proposed legislation would put the brakes on using a Blackberry, cellphone or iPod behind the wheel, even if stopped at a red light. Not to worry, though, lack of a signal doesn’t mean you have to put your iPhone (or iPod) away - there are plenty of…

Apple sweet and sour

By Martin J Young HUA HIN, Thailand - Apple brought a brighter complexion to the faces of some stressed Wall Street traders and investors this week by announcing a 26% profit increase. The computer and iPhone-maker’s US$1.14 billion profit in the three months to September 27 beat analysts’ expectations and helped drive shares up by as much as 13% in after-hours trading on Tuesday when the statement was released. That went some way to easing the pain of a share-price slide from above $200 last Christmas to below $92 before the earnings announcement. Apple chief executive Steve Jobs told analysts: “We may get buffeted around by the waves a little bit, but we’ll be fine.”…

Earnings Preview: Economy may hurt Apple in 4Q

SEATTLE—Apple Inc. reports earnings for its fiscal fourth quarter on Tuesday after the market closes. The following is a summary of key developments and analyst opinion related to the period. OVERVIEW: The fourth quarter was the first full quarter of sales for Apple’s revamped iPhone 3G, a smartphone that uses wireless companies’ faster third-generation networks. Investors will get more clarity on the iPhone’s adoption after a rocky launch day and persistent complaints about the iPhone’s performance, but the device isn’t likely to pump up results in the quarter because of the way…
